SEO Keywords

I have often thought it would be much more efficient if I could label words in my content as keywords. Is this possible so that we don't have to rely on creating categories and tags? For instance, if I wrote the sentence "I watched football last week" is it possible to highlight the word "football" as an SEO keyword?
